Introduction to APO E Gene Diet and Advanced Cardiovascular Lipid Profile
Dates: Thursday 12 PM - 1:30 PM, August 14, 2008
Cost: FREE
Instructor: Barbara Denison ARNP, AHN-BC
Description: Listen to an overview of what the APO E Gene is and how this genetic marker can inform you how your body metabolizes fats, carbohydrates and proteins. This information allows for individualized dietary recommendations to prevent inflammation.
Did you know that if your bad (LDL) cholesterol is the good pattern A (light and fluffy & not as likely to clog arteries), it can be converted to the unhealthy pattern B (hard and dense LDL that is more likely to clog arteries) if you eat too low of a fat diet based on your APO E gene type? Some APO E gene types respond very quickly to dietary changes.
Advanced Cardiovascular Lipid Profile (ACVLP) is a more accurate way to determine individual risk factors for heart disease than the standard lipid profile that only measures total cholesterol, triglycerides and the total good (HDL) and bad (LDL) cholesterol. The research lab that performs these tests includes genetic markers that are not done in routine screenings that provide vital information regarding cardiovascular risk and how you metabolize fat, carbohydrates and protein.
