Amber Davey

Amber Davey is a native of Wichita, Kansas. After moving to the Kansas City area, Amber graduated from Rockhurst University in Kansas City, Missouri. In April 2005, she returned to hometown Wichita to take a position in Sales and Marketing for 2 years before deciding to return to school and pursue a career in massage therapy.

Once completing a 600 hour Massage & Oriental Bodywork program at the Kansas College of Chinese Medicine in Wichita, Kansas, Amber joined the team of practitioners at InnerWorks Holistic Health Center in August 2008. In December that same year she attained National Certification in Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork. Since attaining national certification, Amber has taken over 20 hours of continuing education, and plans to continue taking courses in order to maintain national certification, as well as broaden her skills as a massage therapist.

In October 2009, Amber took a Level 1 course in Lomi Lomi, a Hawaiian massage passed down through generations, under licensed massage professional, Abby Cicirelli. Lomi Lomi means loving hands, and is best described as a moving prayer. The practitioner prays that the love and healing powers of God will flow through their hands, and onto the client. When you feel love in your heart, and the intention of prayer and healing is there, the client will feel the powerful benefits of those intentions. “Since incorporating Lomi Lomi into sessions with my existing clients, the positive results are undeniable. I will continue to study this form of therapy, and look forward to witnessing the healing effects it will carry on to my clients, as well as myself.”

Amber also brings deep tissue massage to InnerWorks. Traditional deep tissue is often interpreted as painful, but necessary in order to correct postural defects, or help with sports injuries. Although Amber respects the need for this type of therapy in some chronic tension cases, it is a technique she often finds herself using in isolated situations only. What Amber thrives for instead is consistently achieving a level of pressure that is appropriate for each client, at each visit, in order to attain optimal results. It is important to remember that the benefits of massage reach their full potential when multiple layers of muscle and soft tissue are being accessed. Deep tissue massage pushes past the superficial layers of soft and connective tissue that run throughout the body. Therefore, the effects may be temporary if only one layer is ever being treated. It is important to communicate with Amber when receiving this type of massage in order to maintain a deep level of pressure that is still within the client’s tolerance.

Amber firmly believes the maximum benefits of massage are best achieved when received on a consistent basis – this is a positive sign to the body that it will continue to receive the support it needs, and no longer has to resort to old “holding patterns”. They are also best achieved when varied techniques and pressures are used appropriately for the current state of the body. Each person has very different needs from the next, as well as a varied perception of pain, which makes it difficult, if not impossible, to apply the same exact therapy to every person visiting InnerWorks for a massage. Only after listening to the client’s input before and after, as well as the client’s body during, does Amber then decide what techniques will be best, and what level of pressure to work at during individual sessions.

Amber has experience working with clients suffering from the following conditions: fibromyalgia, osteoarthritis, arthritis, low back pain, neck pain, whiplash, isolated and chronic sports injuries, anxiety, chronic stress, and those with limited mobility or loss in range of motion. I feel truly lucky to have found a profession I love and look forward to everyday.”
