What is Reflexology?

Reflexology is a non-invasive, alternative, holistic healing therapy. It dates back over 5,000 years ago and appears in many ancient cultures including Egypt, China, Russia and Japan. It is based on the theory that there are areas or zones on the feet and hands that directly correspond to organs, glands and systems in the body. The goal of reflexology is to work with the energy flow of the body, through points on the feet, to promote natural self healing, a state of balance and relaxation. 

The feet have over 7,000 nerve endings, 26 bones, 107 ligaments, 19 muscles and take the average person over 100,000 miles in their lifetime and yet it is one of the most neglected part of our body.

Reflexology is a safe, non-invasive, natural healing technique that can benefit anyone of any age. Caution should be used for patients with thrombosis, diabetes and should be avoided in the first three months of pregnancy.

What to expect from a Reflexology Session

A typical Reflexology session will last about 45 minutes, and takes place in one of our quiet massage rooms. You will remain fully clothed and be asked to relax on a comfortable heated table. The therapist will clean your feet with warm towels and begin massaging the feet while locating areas of tension or congestion. These areas of congestion are then worked on using manual techniques by the therapist; this is not painful but may cause slight discomfort or tenderness in areas that need extra attention. The session is generally very relaxing yet rejuvenating.
