Psycho-Spiritual Services at InnerWorks

Jim Gilkenson, in his book, "A Pilgrim in Your Body", refers to the spiritual process as the processes of psycho-spiritual transformation that take place in a person as he or she awakens, in stages, to the totality of their being.

The body, on all levels, works toward balance. Healing one's emotions is interwoven with healing in the physical body and as well as the spiritual realm. Emotions are carried through out the body and manifest in a wide variety of physical symptoms, belief structures, and behavioral patterns. Stress in one's daily life is carried in the physiology of the body. Through counseling and/or spiritual direction, one can gain awareness, insight, and healing by recognizing that one's "symptoms" are part of a bigger picture. Every being, on some level, has a story that yearns to be told and compassionately heard, not only in the presence of another but most importantly through itself. Learning how to be present to one's own physical body, emotions, thoughts, and spiritual connections in life-supportive ways can have profound effects on one's general health and wellness. InnerWorks offers a holistic opportunity for healing of the whole person, the emotional and mental, the spiritual, and the physical.

In psychotherapy (counseling), the approach utilized by Molly Traffas, Taunya Rutenbeck, and Theresa Flaigle focuses on fostering an individual's awakening to their own strengths, gifts, belief structures, values, as well as assisting each client to gain more clarity in their own assessments of their limitations or lack of skills (rather than self-criticism). In addition, some of the internal work focuses on identifying and diffusing stuck points or blocks; some of the work focuses on strengthen one's ability to consistently make life choices that honor their own value system. The framework in the counseling setting is from a lens of health and wellness rather than pathology, even as she specializes in the treatment of trauma, self-esteem, depression and anxiety. While acknowledging and honoring an individual's/couple's pain, loss, and/or wounding, the intention is to assist the individual/couple in connecting to and enlivening the life-energy beneath the wound that is so wanting to express itself.

In Spiritual Direction Royce utilizes compassionate listening and presence as well as a willing openness and awareness to the guidance of Spirit to accompany another along their spiritual journey. She meets her directees where they are on the journey and walks with them, fully acknowledging that the Divine is the true Director leading the way.

In Emotional Body Work Dr. Kraskow uses several types of mind-body work to decrease mental and emotional stress. Dr. Kraskow believes healing at its highest level is ultimately a mental, emotional and spiritual event. Ten people may all have the same condition or symptoms, but each person's reaction to their situation is different. Their psychological, emotional and spiritual perspective affects not only the physical aspects of the condition, but also helps determine the general level of health of the person. Even with a terminal condition, one person may be filled with resentment, and a "why me" consciousness, while another is filled with gratitude and appreciation of the blessings of their life (e.g. family, friends, beautiful experiences); the person filled with appreciation is the healthier person.

Dr. Kraskow uses Emotional Body Work and Homeopathy to help support this aspect of a person's health and well being. Much of the work focuses on past issues which continue to affect us in our daily lives. The following are some procedures used:

Neuro Emotional Technique seeks to decrease the effects of negative emotional experiences which have been memorized by your body.

Thought Field Therapy disrupts energy patterns associated with traumatic events and negative experiences. Acupoints are stimulated while the client recalls an emotional event.
