Mindfulness meditation is the process of observing the body and mind intentionally, of letting your experiences unfold in the moment and accepting them as they are. Meditation is about having the intention to pay attention to things as they are happening. It's a consciousness discipline.
How do I start?
Start just where you are. Attention on the breath, without trying to control it, and notice where your mind goes. Each time you notice that your mind has wandered, which is human nature, gently bring it back to the focus of your attention- the breath-without judgment. While breathing is the universal foundation for meditation practice, other things may be the focus of ones attention, such as a place in nature or significant image or symbol for you. It's often helpful to have guidance when first starting a meditation practice and we can help you with that at InnerWorks. The key is to practice daily, even if it's only a few minutes, it will make a difference in your life!
