Lorie Wilson, L.Ac., M.Ed., M.A.
Lorie has a unique background of training and experience which has greatly influenced her views on health and how she practices. Her early interest in inner work led her to pursue a graduate degree (M.A.) from the University of Iowa in Sport Psychology studying mind-body techniques to enhance fitness and performance. She later taught and coached on the college level. To complete her Master's degree (M.Ed.) in Exercise Wellness, she developed a program for injury prevention and rehabilitation for firefighters on the Wichita Fire Department, where she was an EMT/Firefighter.
Seven years at an Orthopedic Rehabilitation Clinic introduced her to the chronic pain population who at times have no hope of leading a normal life. This led Lorie to pursue training in alternative therapies including CranioSacral Therapy (CST), Somato-Emotional Release (SER), Zero Balancing (ZB), Acupressure, Classical 5 Element Acupuncture, NADA Acudetox Acupuncture, Massage, Auriculotherapy, Traditional Chinese Medicine Acupuncture, Seva Stress Release, and HeartMath. She finds it very beneficial to combine some of these therapies to best serve her client's needs.
Lorie has been in private practice since 1997. She utilizes a model based on integral healing theory that recognizes the need for providing care that enhances health in all aspects of our being, including the physical (biomedical), mental (attitudes, beliefs, thought patterns), emotional (psycho-spiritual), spiritual (connection with divine/source/nature), social (relationships), and as community members (systems influenced participants). Understanding of these aspects of self and how they are all involved in our health is necessary for healing and living our lives to our fullest potential.
The InnerWorks Story
Since 1997, Lorie Wilson has been the face of InnerWorks, providing services based on the need for understanding the mental, emotional and spiritual along with the physical aspects of self and how they impact your health, your ability to fully embrace life and achieve your highest potential is integral to holistic health. In February 2004, Lorie Wilson and Kelly Phipps opened the doors of InnerWorks Holistic Health Center, LLC as an evolving service-based organization devoted to physical, emotional and spiritual health and growth. This labor of love was the culmination of several years of discussion regarding the need for a truly integrative approach to wellness and disease. Supported by a committed group of like-minded colleagues, InnerWorks provided a safe and supportive environment for healing and personal growth for staff, clients, and the Wichita community for 10 years.
Lorie is now back to a solo practice based on helping individuals discover the facets of self that are defining and influencing their health. The healing process is a journey that takes us ever deeper into ourselves, sometimes discovering old patterns or injuries that we thought were no longer affecting us. While we cannot change the past, we can change the emotional charge and energetic hold the past continues to have on us; how it affects our actions and interpretations of how the world works. These changes enable us to renegotiate the meaning and release the held energy of the trauma. This inner work approach assists and empowers us to use the trauma as a catalyst and as a transformative experience. Lorie believes these experiences facilitate the transformation into the true authentic self, capable of fulfilling our soul’s purpose.
The portal to health for one person is not the same for the next, and each practitioner must be diligent in searching for the most appropriate and therapeutic approaches. With more than 25 years of experience, Lorie offers support and guidance to meet your health concerns and get you on the path to a happier, healthier, more fulfilling lifestyle.
What is a Session with Lorie Like?
The first session typically takes an hour to an hour and a half. During that time, Lorie will take a history including information about what brings you in, your medical history, and information concerning your health, wellness, and activity level in all aspects of your being. Are there repeating patterns in your health or your relationships or events in your life that you are aware of? Any unresolved issues that could be influencing your health? Are you in a rut that you need help getting out of? Lorie is interested in why you think you are where you are and what your health goals are.
We will discuss the possible options concerning your treatment plan and begin your treatment the first day you come in. Lorie may integrate the body work modalities of Zero Balancing, Cranial Sacral Therapy, and Somato-Emotional Release, with Acupressure or Acupuncture because of the synergistic effects of the different types of therapies. She believes the combination of these therapies facilitates healing and creates harmony on a deep and profound level, not only for your own healing, but also so you can have a positive impact on your families, your communities and the world.
Depending on the level of your pain, we will schedule appointments once or twice a week to see how your body responds over time. Lorie recommends you schedule three more appointments to allow the body time to respond and allow us to see how your body is holding the treatment. When you feel better, that may be the last treatment, or you may continue to come in periodically to maintain your overall sense of well-being.
An important part of Lorie’s approach includes teaching self-care techniques and offering educational opportunities to learn how to manage your own well-being and sustain a healthy lifestyle. Whether your interest lies in short-term (acute, seasonal illness) or you have long term goals of:
- improved health, wellness and longevity
- improved functioning and/or performance
- reduced stress and increased energy
- integrating mind, body and spirit wellness
- vitality to fully embrace and enjoy life
Lorie can provide an integral road map to meet your needs and accomplish your goals. By honoring your own innate wisdom and intuition, we can choose which service or combination of services can best serve you. By learning to listen deeply and trust fully, we can begin to more confidently seek out the care that will serve you in the most beneficial manner.
